Krishna doesn’t live only in mythology, he lives among us – a character more human than divine. My abiding fascination for him has forced me to paint him time and again.
In my painting Krishna has never been just a subject or a theme, because there are some themes which surpass their portrayals. The canvas, the craft and the colours together make up the medium through which the subject comes alive. To me, Krishna, as the shepherd boy, is such a character. In fact, I can identify myself with the dark-hued, do eyed young boy playing his tune on the flute. I look at the world through his eyes and my heart resonates with his tune. My present self merges with that mythological shepherd boy, and my canvas gets filled up with lines and colours.
